Get Your Innovation Plans Funded
If you're just getting started with R&D or looking to establish your R&D capabilities, this fantastic opportunity from Callaghan Innovation could be exactly what you need.
What is the New to R&D Grant?
The New to R&D Grant is a 2-year package of government funding and support to help local innovators with new R&D projects. Applications are welcome anytime, but this is a new program with limited funding so it’s first come, first served!
Funding of up to $400,000 is available to fund 40% of your proposed R&D activities.
What are the Benefits of the New to R&D Grant?
The New to R&D Grant is all about helping you become a long-term R&D pro – because, let's face it, if you want to have the leading products and tap into new markets, you gotta keep on innovating. So, the grant is more than just cash for your project – it also helps you build capacity in 7 key areas:
- Understanding and using customer input
- Intellectual property
- Regulatory and compliance
- Lean R&D
- Project management
- R&D information management
- Understanding ongoing funding from the R&D Tax Incentive.
How BlueRock’s grant specialists help you access the New to R&D Grant
- Independent advice without the risk
- Discussing your R&D plans and needs confidentially

Am I Eligible for the New to R&D Grant?
Most NZ-based private sector businesses should be eligible for the New to R&D Grant, but only during a tightly defined time window. You need to have definite R&D investment, yet not too large or be too well supported already. Very early in the process, Callaghan will assess your company’s position and may then decide you cannot fully apply.
